Coach Bus Etiquette: Seriously?

Coach Bus Etiquette: Seriously?
Did you know that coach buses account for as many as 751,000,000 passenger trips taken annually? As you might guess, with that number of people there are going to be many funny (and sad) bus stories, like the person who fell asleep on you, or the one that gave their social security number out loud while sitting near someone who appear to be a convicted criminal.
Here are four simple tips for coach bus etiquette that will ensure that the next funny bus story won’t be about YOU!
Be on time. To help the trip run smoothly and on schedule, make sure you know the meetup time and location. In fact, it is best to arrive early in order to get settled in your seat and allow other passengers to do the same. Keep an eye on the time during rest stop breaks or free time and return to the bus promptly when time is up.
Bring a small bag. Take along a small travel bag, backpack, or purse that you can store in the overhead compartment above your seat or below the seat in front of you. This will help you manage your space. Bring only the necessary items that you think you may need such as medication, glasses or contact solution, a book, or a bottle of water.
Limit cell phone use. Refrain from using your phone while on the bus. Phone conversations can be distracting to other passengers and disruptive if your guide is trying to speak to the tour group. Keep your phone on silent during coach bus transportation. You can always make your phone calls during the next rest stop, or better yet, conduct conversations entirely using emojis.
Be considerate of fellow travelers. Always be mindful of the other passengers on the bus. Keep the volume of your conversation low, especially when the tour guide is speaking on the microphone. Also, be aware that many people are sensitive to food smells, and other strong odors. Only bring foods that don’t have a potent smell since you will be in close proximity to others for a major portion of the day. Finally, some motor coach busses have reclining seats. Keep in mind that there may be a person seated behind you. When you recline too far back, you could be encroaching on his or her personal space by limiting available leg room.
